Chalfont St Peter pensioner reaches 100
Doris Girder of Chalfont St Peter pensioner has reached the milestone of her 100th birthday.
Mrs Girder, who was born on July 23, 1908, celebrated her birthday with family and friends at the Rock House care home in Austenwood Lane.
Mrs Girder has lived in the village since she was a teenager having moved there from Hebburn, South Tyneside to look for work.
She worked in domestic service in Gerrards Cross before eventually marrying her husband Bert in 1932.
Her two children, David and Doris, were brought up in Chalfont St Peter, and she now has three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She moved out of her home two years ago, when she was 98, and took up residency at Rock House.
Her daughter, Doris Swift, said: "She had a fantastic time at her party and really enjoyed getting her letter from the Queen. She was really pleased with it and kept hold of it all afternoon."
