Shop Talk: Beverly Tapner
Every week our reporters go out and about to find more out about our individual shops and businesses..
This week we caught up with Beverly Tapner, who lives in Chalfont St Peter, and opened up Kalceo Shoe Shop in Market Place four weeks after the building became available for lease. She tells the Advertiser all about her business.
How have things been going since you opened?I think things have been good. Lots of people have wandered in and have shown an interest. It is still early days and I couldn't say that we have any regular customers yet, but over time I'm sure that we will have. The main thing is that lots of people have shown an interest in us, which is very positive.
Why did you decide to open in Chalfont St Peter?
My husband runs the jewellers next door and he was given the opportunity to expand his shop. There didn't seem much point in doing that so we decided to open this shop instead. Lots of people have always said that Chalfont St Peter needs a shoe shop and this seemed like a good opportunity to give the village something that would be good for it.
Was it a worry opening a shop in the current economic climate?
Well, it was definitely a concern and it certainly isn't an easy time to be in business, but I hope that we can just ride this time out until it finishes. If we can get by until then I think we will be fine.
What do you offer that other shoe shops don't?
I think we offer a good personal service and I think that the fact that we are based in Chalfont St Peter is a good thing. People who live in this village will hopefully be pleased that they don't have to travel far to buy their shoes now that we are here.
