Police in Chalfont St Peter met with villagers this week to discuss how best to tackle problems of crime and anti-social behaviour in the village.
On Monday, police made themselves available at their offices in Gravel Hill along with members of Buckinghamshire County Council so that people could drop by and receive advice on how to deal with crime.
People also told officer Jim Clarke and Sergeant Learie Bacchus about their concerns over the recent crime and vandalism in the village.
Sgt Bacchus said: "We have had a steady flow of people throughout the day and I am pleased that we have been able to give them advice.
"We have had quite a few elderly people drop by who have told us that they are concerned about the amount of youths who gather on the streets in the village and on Gold Hill Common.
"We have told them that if they are concerned about the behaviour of the gangs, to call us and let us know what they are doing and where they are loitering. We can then go along and chat to the youths and disperse them if we feel it is necessary."
The meeting came about following criticism of the way in which police dealt with incidents of serious vandalism, including one incident in which a couple's £18,500 caravan was set on fire in the early hours of the morning by yobs.
Since then, police have stepped up their patrols in the village, and have started moving youngsters on if they are gathering late at night.
Sgt Bacchus added: "Today was designed as a way of getting in touch with people in the village and to offer them advice as well as taking on board their concerns. We want people in the village to feel that we are approachable and to know that we are doing our utmost to help them."
