Hopes for new cycle path

A new cycle path could soon be built between Chalfont St Peter and Chalfont St Giles if Bucks County Council can secure funding for it.
If the route is built, it will run along Narcot Lane between the two villages, starting near the Chalfonts Community College and ending at the roundabout in Chalfont St Giles near to the White Hart pub.

22075361 TVP.jpgPolice are looking for the author of a letter which led them to find the skeleton of a man who had been living rough in Broadsprings Wood, in Denham.
Officers were sent the letter by an anonymous member of the public saying they had come across the remains in the wood, next to junction 16 of the M25 and the slip road onto the M40 towards Uxbridge, when walking their dog.

Church Lane parking agreement

22057233 Parking-Meter.jpgDrivers in Chalfont St Peter will be able to park for free for five days this year.
The car park in Church Lane, which normally charges people who are using it for more than one hour, will be completely free for five Saturdays in 2009.
The decision is a joint venture between the parish council and the village chamber of commerce and is designed as a way of helping out businesses in the village at key times of year.

Followers of fashion should pay a visit to St Joseph's Catholic Church Hall for advice on spring looks on a budget.
The event takes place on Friday, March 6, between 10am and noon, where tips will given out about how to update your wardrobe without spending a fortune.
Advice will be given out by image consultants Julia Cumming and Jan Foster. Tickets are £10 and can be bought by calling 01753 882 636.

23016709 Sudesh Gupta.jpgRacists have left a shopkeeper terrified after years of abuse and vandalism from nearby youths.
Sudesh Gupta, who runs Quick Stop in Rickmansworth Lane, Chalfont St Peter, with his wife, has suffered appalling racism over the course of the last four years, which came to a head last week when yobs threw stones through the windows of his shop in the early hours of the morning.

Budgens launch carrier bag scheme

Customers at Budgens can help out a charity and the environment by using their own bags at the shop's checkouts.
Every time a customer uses their own carrier bags, the shop will donate 1p to the Williams Fund, which raises money for research into childhood cancer.
A poster will be displayed in the shop showing how much has been raised and how many bags have been saved.

23008019 David-Cameron.jpgThe National Society for Epilepsy in Chalfont St Peter has spoken of its sadness at the tragic death of its vice president David Cameron's son.
Ivan Cameron, six, who had suffered from epilepsy and cerebral palsy, died in the early hours of this morning after being taken ill over night.

22997281 St-Josephs-Church.jpgSt Joseph's Catholic Church in Chalfont St Peter has applied to extend the hours in which it is allowed to stay open and serve alcohol leaving nearby residents angry.
The church wants to be allowed to use its hall in Austenwood Common to sell alcohol and stay open later than it is currently allowed.
It has applied to Chiltern District Council for permission to serve alcoholic drinks every day from noon until midnight, on Sundays until 10.30pm and on special occasions until 2am.

Air Cadet given overseas tour

CSP-Denham-Cadet.jpgAn air cadet from Denham has been selected for two prestigious overseas trips this year.
Cadet Warrant Officer Stuart McCarthy, 19, will be jetting out to Southern Germany in April, to complete a skiing course as part of a specialist air cadet scheme, and then in July he will fly to Turkey as a member of the UK contingent of the 2009 International Air Cadet Exchange.

It was the second visit this year by the team from Milton Keynes, and was designed as part of an ongoing scheme by Chalfont St Peter police to increase their presence and profile in the village.

Episode Eleven: Batman Returns

The penultimate Youtube clip in the Chalfont St Peter Batman series has been posted showing the caped crusader finally coming face-to-face with his arch nemesis/best friend.
Entitled Batman Returns the village superhero is seen in the eight minute clip still struggling to accept his responsibilities as the cure to anti-social behaviour in Chalfont St Peter which residents called for on the village forum last year.
On the day the snow fell across the district Batman takes to Gold Hill Common to try and gain some public support after some criticism levelled at him for areas of the community.
But with only one episode remaining he will soon have to step up to his role and come to the village's aid.
Look out for an interesting cameo appearance next week.

Batman Returns

Parents in Denham and Gerrards Cross whose children have yet to sit the eleven plus are being urged by Gerrards Cross Parish Council to sit up and take notice of the proposed changes to grammar school catchment areas.
Councillors are concerned that parents are unaware that the proposals may make it less likely that boys from Gerrards Cross and Denham will get places at the sought after Royal Grammar School (RGS), and have taken the unusual step of issuing a press statement.

Hollybush Lane 'pollution' fears

A "pollution incident" took place at waste treatment facility in Hollybush Lane on Monday.
A source said there was a spillage of biofuel and that animals in nearby fields are being monitored for side effects in case it seeps into the water table.
Narinder Bansal of the Environment Agency said: "We were alerted to a pollution incident. Officers attended the site on various occasions. After our initial investigations we are satisfied that the impact was fairly low. However we will continue investigations."

22956836 A413-Speed-Limit.jpgA campaign to reduce the speed limit on a "dangerous" stretch of the A413 at Chalfont St Peter has been launched by residents.
Chalfont St Peter Community Safety Group, set by residents, wants Advertiser readers to bombard Bucks County Council with requests to lower the limit along a 600 metre stretch between the Greyhound and Kingsway roundabouts.
BCC is about to review of speed limits in Chalfont St Peter and is obliged to take into account residents' views.

Fire crews put out blaze at NSE

A fire engine rushed to the National Society for Epilepsy on Friday at 2.15pm to put out a fire at a pile of rubbish. (13th)
One fire crew attended from Gerrards Cross fire station. Nobody was hurt.

Richard Allen, chairman of Chalfont St Peter parish council, saw his CD mail-order business go under in December 2007 because it was unable to compete with internet companies.

GX-A40-Crash.jpgPeople across Buckinghamshire have spoken of their anger after a pensioner was killed on an unlit stretch of road in Gerrards Cross.
On January 21, Margaret Beeson, 75, of Layter's Green Lane, Chalfont St Peter died after being knocked down by a car on a dark section of the A40.
The accident came after Bucks County Council decided to switch off the lights on the road as part of a three year experiment to reduce its carbon footprint.

22851710 CSP-Ducks.jpgInformation about the origin of the new ducks in Layter's Green Pond has been submitted to the Buckinghamshire Advertiser website.
Last week, we reported how three new ducks had appeared at the pond in Chalfont St Peter after two animals were shot dead there by yobs with air rifles in January.
At the beginning of this month, three new Aylesbury ducks appeared at the pond, but, as the animals cannot fly, it was a mystery as to who had been responsible for putting them there.

Two buildings, one 31,000 sq ft and the other 11,000 sq ft are set to be built later this month as part of the Chiltern Park development located between the A413 and Lower Road.
The 2.35 acre site was bought by Barwood Developments from Frontier Estates in May last year, and planning permission for the office complex was given by Chiltern District Council (CDC) in September.

Ryan Carroll, 39, of Grove End, is taking part in the Mongol Rally, which starts in July, along with his friend Ajay Kalhan.
The route they have decided upon will take them across the channel, through France, Belgium, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia before entering Mongolia and making their way to Ulaan Baatar, the country's capital.

Mr Gough, born in 1909, had a party with friends and family at Denham village hall for his birthday on Friday, January 30.
He enjoyed a big birthday cake, and he believes that it could be his sweet tooth which is the secret of his longevity.

International theme for art week

CSP-Art-Week.jpgChildren at Chalfont St Peter Infant School have been taking a trip around the world for their annual art week.
The school, in Lovel End, have decided on an international theme for this year's event with each class decorating their rooms in the styles of different countries.
The nations being focussed on are China, Scotland, Australia, India, Egypt and Indonesia, and children are taking part in a number of activities throughout the week based on the cultures of the various countries.

22886907 Golliwog.jpgA Chalfont St Peter toy shop has said it will continue to sell golliwog dolls despite the recent press controversy concerning the toys.
Activity Chest in Market Place has always sold the dolls and the recent furore over Carol Thatcher using the term to describe a black tennis player has not changed their views on the subject.
Managers of a shop in the Queen's Sandringham estate were also forced to apologise after they were found to be selling the controversial toys.

NSE receives sizeable donation

CSP-Nse-&-Chiltern-American.jpgChiltern American Women's Club paid a visit to the National Society for Epilepsy to hand over a special gift.
The group visited the site in Chesham Lane, Chalfont St Peter, on Friday, to hand over a cheque for £6,453.82, all of which was raised from CAWC's Christmas bazaar.
Barb Brandt handed over the money to Bridget Gardiner, the NSE's director of fund raising, at a special ceremony.

22871572 CDC-Bins.jpgChiltern District Council have been forced to suspend their waste collection service again due to the heavy snow overnight.
The council hope to send its team out on Saturday but weather conditions could see those plans scuppered and plan to keep residents updated through their website.
When collections resume next week the council will only be collecting black bin waste with residents told to retain their green waste until their next scheduled collection.
All black bags should be taken off the road and re-presented on the next scheduled collection date and all recycling boxes should be held onto until the next collection date.

Shop Talk: Apex Physio

CSP-Shop-Talk-Apex.jpgClaire Peebles has been running Apex Physio in Chalfont St Peter since 2006 and is now extending the business to run in the Millbarn Medical Centre in Beaconsfield. She talked to the Advertiser about the move.

How did you get into running this business?
I have been qualified for 10 years and I followed the path that all physiotherapists do. I trained with the NHS and then began on private practises in 2001 in South Bucks. Over time, I built up my private work and reduced the NHS things that I was doing. I've been fully private since 2004 and I opened up here because I am local and know the area and play a lot of sports in the area, and because of that I thought the business would be a success.

CSP-Comm-Centre-Activity.jpgDisabled people from across the county came together at the weekend for a huge party.
The event was held at the community centre in Chalfont St Peter on Saturday, and saw around 90 people from homes such as the National Society for Epilepsy and the Leonard Cheshire Home in Gerrards Cross all join together for the day.
The day was organised by The Way, a group from St Andrews church in Chorleywood, which has been working with disabled people in the community in recent months.

Students from Chalfont St Peter Community College will get to meet victims of crime and see the scenes of recent crimes in the village, when they are taken on a Community Walk by the police, on February 9 and 10.
As many as 240 pupils from the college will be walking the beat and visiting recent 'hot spots, such as The Vale, Lovel Road, Lovel Mead and the High Street. They will see where crimes have been committed and get a chance to learn about the consequences of crime from victims.

Amersham Road accident

A man and woman were released from their vehicles after a traffic accident in Chalfont St Peter.
The incident happened in Amersham Road at 9.19am on Tuesday.
The people involved were released from their vehicles before the fire crew from Gerrards Cross arrived at the scene.

Late night BMW theft

An expensive car was stolen from a house in Chalfont St Peter this week.
On Saturday at around 1.15am, burglars broke into a house in Scholars Walk where they stole keys to a black BMW 5 series parked in the drive.
It is believed that there were four or five offenders and that they were travelling in convoy with two other vehicles.
The offenders are thought to be white and in their late teens or early twenties.

£9,000 fine for Denham dumper

A man who had been dumping building waste in the countryside has been ordered to pay £9,000.
Timothy Rhys Blackmore from Denham, was fined for disposing waste without planning permission on land at Gerrards Cross and failing to rectify the situation.
Mr Blackmore pleaded guilty and was convicted on January 21 at Wycombe Magistrates Court.

Knives handed in during amnesty

The scheme was carried out at a host of locations in the village between January 15 and 16, when police invited residents to hand in any unwanted knives via lockable bins placed at locations throughout the area.

22075361 TVP.jpgA Denham shopkeeper has told of his shock after his shop was broken into and he was threatened by three masked men.
On Sunday night, Threshers off license in Station Parade was the victim of an attack in which cigarettes and a small amount of cash was stolen.
Russell Thurbon, manager of the shop, was in the building at the time of the incident, and was forced out of the shop as the masked men raided it.

22851710 CSP-Ducks.jpgA mystery benefactor has delighted people in Chalfont St Peter by donating three new ducks at a pond where a group of the animals were shot by yobs last month.
In Layter's Green Pond, two Aylesbury ducks were found dead after being shot by youths with air rifles, sickening people who lived nearby who often visited the pond to feed them.

22842214 CSP-Teacher.jpgYoungsters at Chalfont St Peter Infant school were shocked to turn up to class and find one of their classmates teaching the lesson.
Christopher Bird, six, came into school last week and announced to Janet West, the head teacher, that he had planned a lesson for the other children, and asked if he could be allowed to teach it.
Having been given permission, he arrived at school the next day dressed in smart clothes and proceeded to take the class, with the other children having to call him Mr Bird all day.

As the Becoming Batman series draws to a close the Chalfont St Peter superhero has released his tenth Youtube video clip showing him struggling with the loneliness of his life.
Entitled 'There is no hope in Crime Alley' the nine minute clip sees the caped crusader undergo psychological examinations and the emergence of a band of villains looking to derail his bid to rid the village of anti-social behaviour.
