Church Lane parking agreement

The car park in Church Lane, which normally charges people who are using it for more than one hour, will be completely free for five Saturdays in 2009.
The decision is a joint venture between the parish council and the village chamber of commerce and is designed as a way of helping out businesses in the village at key times of year.

Sue Moffat, clerk to Chalfont St Peter parish council, said: "The district council gives us five free Saturdays every year, and we then allocate them when we think that they will be best used. It can be a big help to local businesses if people can park for free, so we usually use the free days around Christmas time and at other busy shopping times.
"We work on it along with the chamber of commerce and together we come up with the dates that the car park can be used for nothing."
This year, the Church Lane car park will be free to use on June 27, which is the village Feast Day, and on December 5, 12 and 19 in the run up to Christmas.
The parish council will keep one day in the bag to use in case any unexpected events arise throughout the year.
If there are none, it is thought that the free date will be used at the end of the November, in order to give shoppers four free Saturdays before Christmas.
Ms Moffat added: "People should make a note for the dates so that they do not forget that they can park for free when the time comes."

We'd like to hear from you.

Shouldn't one of the free days be Fun Night? Especially as the other car park is closed for the fair.

It's the busiest day in the village and not included on the list!
