Racists target Chalfont St Peter shopkeeper
Racists have left a shopkeeper terrified after years of abuse and vandalism from nearby youths.
Sudesh Gupta, who runs Quick Stop in Rickmansworth Lane, Chalfont St Peter, with his wife, has suffered appalling racism over the course of the last four years, which came to a head last week when yobs threw stones through the windows of his shop in the early hours of the morning.
One of the stones went through one of his home's bedroom windows, narrowly missing his teenage daughter, who was asleep at the time.
Since Mr Gupta started running the shop five years ago, he has been forced to put up with yobs spraying racist slogans onto the side of the shop and scratching abuse into his car.
He said: "When it first started, I just put it down to kids who didn't know better. I thought that they would soon get bored and give up, but it has gone on for years now. I am certain that the shop is being targeted, because when these incidents happen, nothing is ever done to other houses or cars in the roads, so why do they always pick mine?
"It is a terrible thing to have to live with. Any sounds in the night wake us up and we are never sure if we are being attacked again. We should not have to live like that, and it is making my family very frightened. We do not want to come down when it is happening to confront these people because they could easily be carrying knives."
In the past, Mr Gupta has woken up to find the words 'National Front' sprayed on the side of his shop, and on another occasion the word 'Paki' was scratched into the side of his car.
He added: "We have reported it to the police every time something has happened but nothing ever seems to be done. We need it to stop because we cannot go on living like this."
