Misbourne given clean up by volunteers

CSP-Misbourne-Clean-up.jpgSeveral clean-up days organised recently by Misbourne River Action have proved particularly successful, with several volunteers from Chalfont St Giles joining group chairman Bob Older and his son Paul in an operation to encourage the flow of the river.
Volunteers made temporary repairs to river banks that were leaking into adjacent fields, painted the bridge over the river by the Chalfont St Peter community centre and eased the flow of the river past the duckpond in Chalfont St Giles.

Bob Older of Woodside Close, Chalfont St Peter, said: "It is great to have a good number of residents of Chalfont St Giles on the team now and we look forward to working together throughout the year. It's lovely to have the two villages working together.
"Misbourne River Action is a friendly network. Our goals are to see the river flowing freely like it used to, the channel cleared and maintained in an environmentally-friendly way and the river corridor free of litter."
Mr Older added that the Misbourne is in danger of disappearing over a short section downstream of Misbourne Farm and upstream of Mill Lane, between Chalfont St Giles and Amersham.
He said that he hoped that studies commissioned by the Environment Agency will lead to essential repairs to the river's leaky bed being carried out.
He added that he was grateful for the support of The Chiltern Society River Group and of Chalfont St Giles parish council, who have covered the cost of insurance for the Misbourne River Action Group's activities.
