Film company pledges cash to William Fleming fund
A FILM company have been so moved by the tragic story of the 10-year-old boy left orphaned after his father was killed in a hit and run incident that they donated a large sum of money to help the child.
.
On April 1, Jim Fleming, 47, was cycling along the A413 when he was struck from behind by a vehicle whose driver failed to stop, and he was declared dead at the scene.
Mr Fleming's wife had died six months earlier from cervical cancer and he had been due to stop his job as Chalfont St Peter's haywarden, a postion he had held for 12 years, so that he could look after his son William and be at home when the boy got back from school.
William, who is a pupil at Robertswood School, is now being looked after by Mr Fleming's stepson Mark Twine, 21, and his sister Claire, 19.
Since then, the parish council has set up the William Fleming Fund, and a number of substantial donations have already been made by villagers who have been touched by the story.
Shortly after the accident occurred, a film company came to the village to shoot scenes for the up and coming film, It's a Wonderful Afterlife, starring Zoe Wanamaker.
Two of the film crew began talking to parish councillor Bruce Allen, who told them about the tragedy that had recently happened in the village.
Mr Allen said: "When I told them about it, they were almost brought to tears by what had happened. Two days later, there was a knock at my door and they were there with a three figure cheque for the fund. I was not expecting it at all and was totally overwhelmed by their generosity. It proves that the world does have some good people in it."
The fund also recently benefited from a £500 cheque from the Waggon and Horses pub who raised the money in a raffle.
So far, the fund has raised more than £800, but more is expected in the coming weeks when children go back to school following the Easter holidays
