Oliver to be performed at Community College
VICTORIAN street urchins are set to pick the pockets of guests at the Chalfonts Community College when the school hosts its production of Oliver.
The show, which takes place between July 8 and 11, will transport audiences into the underworld of Dickensian London with its famous song dance routines.
A cast of more than 70 pupils aged between 11 and 18 have been working on the production for the past eight months, helped by professionals Evelyn Wilson and Adam Millard.
Julian Smith, leader of drama at the school, said: "Evelyn and Adam have been excellent role models for the students. I have been so impressed by the way our students have shown lots of energy and commitment at rehearsals.
"They really have demonstrated a professional attitude."
One Year 8 pupil at the school, Alex Phelps, who plays the Artful Dodger, caught the acting bug and has now successfully auditioned to appear in the West End version of the show over the summer.
Principal Sue Tanner said: "We have a number of real stars at the college and are delighted Alex has been given this challenging opportunity."
The show starts at 7.30pm each night, with tickets costing £8 and £6 concessions, and can be ordered by calling 01753 881763.
