Two arrested after Tesco robbery

TWO men have been arrested following an attempted armed robbery at a petrol station in Chalfont St Peter.
On Saturday evening, two young men burst into the Tesco Express station in Gravel Hill and attempted to steal money from the till.

RESIDENTS of Chalfont St Peter are being warned to beware of rogue traders in the village.
Police in the village are appealing for sightings of a blue Mercedes Vito van, registration W395 YBW, which is believed to be linked to rogue traders.

A FORMER Chalfont St Peter parish councillor found himself facing a spell of bowling by an England Ashes star.
Neal Collins, 48, enjoyed a net session with England all-rounder Paul Collingwood on Tuesday last week, less than 24 hours after the epic win against Australia at Lord's.
The session was held to publicise Collingwood's Ashes blog, and Mr Collins, a sports journalist was invited along to take part.

THE chairman of the Chiltern Arts Forum has hit out at the amount of grants arts in the area receive.
Jack Milner has been in contact with the Arts Council, the organisation that distributes government and lottery money for the arts around the country, and has been shocked to discover how little is given to the Chilterns and Buckinghamshire as a whole.

New project for Batman boys

TWO film makers have completed a documentary which they hope will raise awareness about a lesser known form of cancer.
Stuart Laws and Alastair Clayton, who were behind the Becoming Batman YouTube videos earlier this year, have filmed the Silent Cancer, which deals with the subject of pancreatic cancer.

A GROUP of cyclists are set to ride a section of the famous Tour de France route in memory of a friend.
Six men from Gerrards Cross set off on the Montelimar to Mont Ventoux trip on Monday, which covers 172 kilometres.

PEOPLE are being invited to take a look around a new care home at the National Society for Epilepsy site.
The event, which takes place on Friday, July 31, is an opportunity for people to see the first of the charity's new purpose built care homes before they are occupied.

Update: Fire in Joiners Lane

QUICK thinking by a Chalfont St Peter family helped prevent a bedroom fire from taking hold of a home on Tuesday morning.
At 7.15am, fire crews were called to a house in Joiners Lane after a fire in a first floor bedroom had started to spread to the attic.

A fire broke out at a home in Joiners Lane in the early hours of this morning.
The incident happened a 7.15am in a bedroom of a house, and fire crews from Amersham, Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield and High Wycombe attended the scene.
No one was injured in the incident, and fire fighters used hoses and breathing appartus to make the scene safe.

A woman has been injured after her car crashed into a building in Packhorse Road.
The incident happened at 2.18pm yesterday (Thursday), when the woman's vehicle crashed into the front of the Abbey National in Gerrards Cross.

Nuisance bikers invade village

POLICE in Chalfont St Peter have found that people using motorbikes on private land are travelling to the area from different counties.
There have been a host of complaints from residents in the village about the problem, which has seen bikers causing noise and disturbances into the early hours of the morning.

THE trip of a lifetime awaits two young men who are set to drive from England to South Africa and back again, while fitting in a trip up Kilimanjaro along the way.
Carl James, 22, of Chalfont St Peter, and Tom Picton, 22, of Beaconsfield, are setting off in September on a route which will take in more than 40 countries and will take around a year to complete.

A FOUR-year-old boy was left cut and bruised after being hit in the face by a remote controlled plane in Chalfont St Peter.
Sonny Dalston was knocked to the ground by the three foot long toy while playing on Gold Hill Common last month.

A YOUNG dad and his son have won a national prize after attending the same nursery group years apart from each other.
Charlie Whitaker, 29, of Chalfont St Peter and his son Hudson both attended Tumble Tots, and in recognition of this, they have won a short holiday in the UK.

A CHALFONT St Peter running enthusiast has completed his 15th marathon in as many years after taking part in a race through France.
Phil Spalton, 61, was introduced to long distance running nearly 20 years ago, and ran his first full marathon in 1994.

A CHALFONT St Peter school has received high praise following a recent Ofsted inspection.
Chalfont St Peter C of E School in Penn Road was rated Outstanding for the second time, having previously received the same result at the last inspection in 2006.

A CASE of swine flu has been reported at a Gerrards Cross school, the first such reported incident in the area.
Maltman's Green School sent a letter home to parents on Monday night telling them that one of the girls had contracted the illness and it was now up to them whether to continue to send their children in.
