Africa trip pair get vehicle for journey

THE two intrepid young men hoping to drive from Buckinghamshire to South Africa and back have completed the first crucial step of their plan by getting themselves a vehicle in which to complete the trip.
Carl James, 22, of Chalfont St Peter, and Tom Picton, 22, of Beaconsfield are planning on driving from Bucks to Die Hel in South Africa, stopping off in Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on the way.

When they arrive in Die Hel, they will turn around and travel back to England, arriving home around a year after they set off.
However, when they began planning the trip, they did not have a car to take them across Africa and were still in the process of looking for one.
They have now managed to acquire a Land Rover 1997 Defender 110 for the mammoth journey, and have also set up a new website to allow people to follow their progress online.
Carl said: "We opted for a Land Rover over a Toyota in the end. It's a bit rough at the moment but we have just over two months before we go, so we should be able to give it the love it needs before then."
By doing the trip, the pair are hoping to raise funds for charities Link Ethiopia and Alzheimers Research.
They are being supported by Bradt Travel Guides and Antares electrical engineering, both based in Chalfont St Peter.
