Village prepares for garden club's annual show

GREEN fingered villagers are gearing up for the annual show by Chalfont St Peter Garden Club which takes place next weekend.

Many of the club's 600 members will be competing in the show which prides itself on its high standards.
Judges are all trained by the Royal Horticultural Society and RHS rules are strictly applied.
However the competition - which extends to cake and jam making and photography - is open to non members. And it is hoped that many younger people will also take part.
Classes include a men's only cake baking class - to an exact recipe which includes a healthy measure of Guinness - and the popular miniature garden for children. There are also classes for the heaviest potato, longest runner bean, and funniest shaped vegetable.
Jane Campbell, assistant show secretary, said: "We do tend to get the old faithful entering, and we'd like to encourage non members to come along, have a look, and then consider entering next year. We hope that many of our entries for this year will be as a result of people visiting last year."
The show was started soon after the Second World War. It takes place at the Chalfont St Peter Community Centre on Amersham Road on Saturday August 22nd from 2pm to 4pm.
For an entry form, or more information, telephone the club's chairman Grace Hunter on 01753 884006. For more information visit www.gardenclub.org.uk
