Plans emerge for Holy Cross site

NEW details have emerged of what could happen to the Holy Cross site if Chiltern District Council's (CDC) plans to build hundreds of house in Chalfont St Peter are to go ahead.
Under government plans, CDC must find room for 2,700 homes across the district in the next 17 years.

A BURGLAR from Chalfont St Peter who led police across three counties in a dramatic high speed chase has been jailed.
James Cash, 26, of Hillside Close, was sentenced on September 18 after pleading guilty to burglary and theft earlier this year.

Exotic parrots seen in village

RESIDENTS of Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross were shocked this week to see a flock of green parrots flying over their homes.
The birds, which are natives of Australia, were seen flying over the Lovel End area of Chalfont St Peter and near to Packhorse Road in Gerrards Cross on Friday last week.
Residents who saw the strange sight have since contacted the Advertiser to tell of their discovery.

POLICE in Chalfont St Peter are pleading with parents to stop parking illegally when picking up their children after receiving a number of complaints from angry residents.
At recent neighbourhood meetings, police have heard from a number of home owners about the problems being caused by drivers parking so that they cannot leave their driveways and at the corners of busy junctions.

HUNDREDS of residents in Chalfont St Peter flocked to a public meeting to learn of the threat their village faces if plans to build hundreds of new homes there go ahead.
On Saturday, a meeting hosted by the parish council was held in the Chalfont St Peter C of E school to inform villagers that more than 700 new dwellings could be built in the village if Chiltern District Council's (CDC's) plans to meet government targets are given the all clear.

A PENSIONER from Chalfont St Giles has completed his third consecutive sponsored walk to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Mike Greenaway, 74, has walked the 12 kilometre perimeter of Richmond Park in Surrey for the past three years to raise money for people suffering from ulcerative colitis, bowel cancer and Crohn's disease.

A WEALTHY home owner who accused his next-door neighbour of deliberate dishonesty in the midst of a bitter dispute over encroaching damp has had his case thrown out by a top judge.
Enda Lyons and Ian Gardner, have lived beside each other in Nightingale Lane, Chalfont St Giles since 1988, in the divided parts of what was once a single Edwardian house.

A NURSE from Chalfont St Peter is set to swap her day to day routine for a gruelling trek across the Sahara desert.
Liz Bunker, who is a clinical nurse working at Hillingdon Hospital, is going to take on the 100km journey in February next year in order to raise funds for charity.

New care home opened at NSE

A NEW state of the art care home has been opened at the National Society for Epilepsy (NSE) in Chalfont St Peter.
The Rt Hon Earl Howe, president of the NSE, officially opened Russell House at the charity's headquarters in Chesham Lane, Chalfont St Peter on September 15.

CHALFONT St Peter parish council has launched a huge campaign to make residents aware of the threat the village faces if Chiltern District Council's (CDC) plans to build nearly 800 new homes there goes ahead.
The development, which has been described by parish council chairman Richard Allen as "the biggest threat this village has faced in the last 40 years", would see the historic site of the former Holy Cross Convent School being bulldozed to make room for 400 new homes, with a number of other dwellings scattered across the village at sites such as Newland Park and Nortoft Road.

TWO men from Chalfont St Peter have been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery.
The arrests are in connection with an incident involving a taxi driver in Black Park Road, Iver Heath, at around 9.30pm on Thursday, September 10.

A GROUP of chickens have set up home at the Chalfonts Community College.
At the end of the last school year, teachers and students at the school in Narcot Lane were saddened to lose their chickens, which had been nurtured from chicks to fully grown egg providers.

Family bazaar a big success

A FAMILY who had been hit by tragedy raised thousands of pounds for charity at the weekend.
Relations of Megan Baird, who last year gave birth to a still born son, held a bazaar in Chalfont St Peter on Saturday, and raised more than £2,000.

Tourism chief visits museum

CHILTERN Open Air Museum was treated to a VIP visit when a tourism executive paid a visit to the site.
Mike Bedingfield, newly appointed chief executive of tourism in the South East, went to the museum in Gorelands Lane, Chalfont St Giles on Friday last week as part of his visit to Buckinghamshire.

The village's chamber of commerce, led by Michael Day, have started getting ready for the popular event, and have already commissioned a new logo for the event.

A SCHOOL in Chalfont St Peter could soon be producing the next generation of chess masters after having a huge amount of the game's equipment donated to them.
David Meacock, of Buckinghamshire County Council, made the donation to the school in Denham Lane, which will allow all pupils to learn the game.

A SCHOOL in Chalfont St Peter has been hit with a heavy fine after being found guilty of breaching fire safety regulations.
At Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Friday last week, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Priory Road was fined £2,250 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £5,750 for failing to take general fire precautions, failing to adequately implement the findings of a fire risk assessment and failing to appoint fire wardens.

Residents tell of arrest shock

RESIDENTS of a road in Chalfont St Peter have told of their shock after a man who ran through their gardens was arrested by police in front of their homes.
On Thursday evening last week at around 7.30pm, people living in Pinetree Close were surprised to see a police car parked in the street and officers stood by it.

Last year, Megan Baird was told that her baby had died inside her when she was 39 weeks pregnant.

PREPARATIONS are going well for two young men who are planning to drive from Buckinghamshire to South Africa and back for charity.
Carl James of Chalfont St Peter and Tom Picton of Beaconsfield now have a jeep that they plan to use for the expedition and are currently working on it to try and get it in proper working order for the trip, which is set to begin at the beginning of October.
