Exotic parrots seen in village
RESIDENTS of Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross were shocked this week to see a flock of green parrots flying over their homes.
The birds, which are natives of Australia, were seen flying over the Lovel End area of Chalfont St Peter and near to Packhorse Road in Gerrards Cross on Friday last week.
Residents who saw the strange sight have since contacted the Advertiser to tell of their discovery.
Mike Smith, 42, of Gerrards Cross, said: "I was walking near to Packhorse Road on Friday afternoon and I saw the flock really clearly.
"They were flying quite low and they were not like any other birds I have ever seen. They looked really exotic and were obviously not from this country. I think there were about five or six of them as far as I could see.
"I was pretty sure they were parrots so I went home to look on the internet to see if I could find what kind they were. I pretty quickly found some pictures of Green Parrots, and I am sure that is what I saw. I also have a friend who is something of a bird enthusiast, and he told me from my descriptions that it was very likely that they were Green Parrots.
"It was quite surreal, I've got no idea what they were doing in the middle of Gerrards Cross."
The flock were also seen in Chalfont St Peter on the same day.
One resident of Lovel End, said: "I was in my garden and they flew over my head, fairly low, and I got a good sight of them. They were exotic looking green birds and when I told my neighbours they said they had seen them as well and that they were Green Parrots.
"I have heard that they are likely to be escaped pets who have met in the wild and formed a flock. It was a really interesting sight, and it would be great to see them again so that I can get another look."
