Plans emerge for Holy Cross site
NEW details have emerged of what could happen to the Holy Cross site if Chiltern District Council's (CDC) plans to build hundreds of house in Chalfont St Peter are to go ahead.
Under government plans, CDC must find room for 2,700 homes across the district in the next 17 years.
This means that nearly 800 of these could be built in Chalfont St Peter, due to the vacant spaces at the site of the former Holy Cross Convent School, and the Newland Park area on the other side of the village.
It was thought that around 400 of these homes would be built on the Holy Cross site, but according to new information received by the Advertiser, a pre-planning application has been drawn up which would see 331 houses built there, as well as an old people's home with room for 60 residents.
There would also be two new access roads put in to allow cars into the site, one entering from Market Place and one from Grange Close.
The Holy Cross site has been vacant since the school closed down in 2006.
Plans to save the ancient site from development have been drawn up in the past, with Chalfont St Peter C of E School keen to move their to use the existing school facilities at the site.
However, it now seems more likely that the site will be developed as part of the housing plan.
The source of the information, who does not wish to be named, said: "The information has just come to light, and shows that plans have already been made before any decision has officially been made.
"Residents have not been asked their opinions on this at any point, so people will be very angry to find out what is being planned. It shows that CDC's previous statements about no plans having been made are false."
CDC refused to comment on the matter, saying that all pre-planning applications are confidential.
