Police to clamp down on illegal parkers

POLICE in Chalfont St Peter are pleading with parents to stop parking illegally when picking up their children after receiving a number of complaints from angry residents.
At recent neighbourhood meetings, police have heard from a number of home owners about the problems being caused by drivers parking so that they cannot leave their driveways and at the corners of busy junctions.

Police have taken a survey to examine the problem, and found that the main problems were caused around school closure times, with many parents picking up their children parking inconsiderately.
PCSO Isabel Brennan said: "Parking has become a very big problem throughout the entire village and we are working hard to try and resolve the issues.
"Due to the vast amount of schools in the area, we ask all parents to drop their children as promptly as possible and if further time is needed, drivers need to respect the surroundings and residents by allowing them room to move on and off driveways, and also not parking on the corners of junctions.
"The law states that parking is restricted within 10 metres of the corner of a junction, as not doing this restricts the view of other road users.
"It is worse in certain areas than in others, but it is something that we need to deal with, because it is not fair on residents and other road users."
Police also said that there should be enough space to allow a wheelchair or buggy through when parking near to a pavement.
PCSO Brennan added: "Any violations will be dealt with and further action will be taken if vehicles are seen parking in an inconsiderate manner or causing unnecessary obstruction."
