Holocaust survivor visits Chalfonts Community College

A SURVIVOR of the Holocaust paid an emotional visit to students at the Chalfonts Community College this week.
Harry Bibring, 84, visited the school in Narcot Lane on Monday this week to tell the students there of his experiences growing up as a Jew in Nazi Germany.

The visit was part of the Holocaust Eductational Trust's programme, which is designed to teach children today more about the horrors of the war.
Mr Bibring, who was born in Vienna, Austria, was forced to leave his grammar school in 1938 when the Germans invaded, and he was made to attend a school specifically for Jewish children.
His father was arrested and his men's wear business was looted and destroyed, and after leaving jail, it was decided that Harry and his sister Gerta would leave for England.
His parents intended to follow as soon as possible, but this never happened.
Mr Bibring's father died of a heart attack in November 1940 and his mother was sent to a death camp in Sobibor, Poland, in 1942.
Upon arrival in England, Mr Bibring was evacuated to Peterborough and after the war he stayed in London, working in the engineering business before becoming a lecturer at Middlesex University.
He has lived in the UK ever since his arrival here as a school boy during the war.
Libby Pringle, a teacher at the college, said: "It is a privilege for us to welcome Harry Bibring to our school and his testimony will remain a powerful reminder of the horrors so many experienced.
"We are grateful to the Holocaust Educational Trust for organising the visit and hope that by hearing Harry's testimony, it will encourage our students to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives."

We'd like to hear from you.
