Villagers warned after tyre slashing spree

POLICE in Chalfont St Peter are warning car owners to be on their guard after a spate of car tyre slashings in the area.
Figures show that 43 car tyres have been cut in the village since the beginning of 2009, and police are telling drivers to be aware of the issue.

It is believed that a small gang is responsible for the crimes, and officers in the village are in the process of gathering evidence on the issue.
PC Jim Clarke said: "This is an extremely high number of incidents to have happened in a relatively small space of time, especially for an area like Chalfont St Peter.
"We believe that it is the work of a small gang who are operating mainly when it is dark.
"It is disgraceful behaviour and is causing a lot of hardship and inconvenience for car owners, who have been waking up to find that their car tyres have been slashed.
"We are gathering evidence to try and put a stop to this, but we need anyone who has had their car tyres damaged in this way to come forward and talk to us, because the more information we have on it, the better."
Anyone wishing to contact the police can go along to their offices near to the community centre in Gravel Hill, or can call them on 0845 8 505 505.
Alternatively, if you would like to talk anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
