Large scale care community could be built in village

AROUND 80 new properties could soon be built as part of a large scale new care home in Chalfont St Peter.

The retirement community would be built on part of the Epilepsy Society's site off Rickmansworth Lane, but would be run by Audley Retirement.

The firm is set to show off plans at a public exhibition on Friday, October 14 at the Epilepsy Society's CAPS building, and Audley Retirement says that the buildings have been "sensitively designed to reflect the local architecture and rural location" and would include communal facilities and care to support elderly people, as well as an orchard, allotments and new gardens.

Although Audley Retirements says that the new care community would not cover any more of the site than existing buildings which are there, nearby residents are concerned about the impact the increase in population would have on the area.

Timothy Larkin, 57, of nearby Deancroft Lane, said: "80 new homes is the last thing that we need here.

"This is already a very congested part of Chalfont St Peter, with the Epilepsy Society attracting a lot of visitors and cars using the roads here to access Robertswood School.

"Chalfont St Peter is soon going to be a very crowded place to live if this goes ahead and hundreds of homes are built on the Holy Cross site. The population of the village will sky rocket."

Ben Krauze, Audley Retirements's planning director, said: "There is an increasing need for housing for older people in Chalfont St Peter and a care community such as this allows people to live securely and independently in their own homes while having access to care and support 24 hours a day.

"We are committed to working with the local community to develop the plans and look forward to hearing local residents' feedback on our proposals."

The draft plans will be on show at the CAPS building between 2pm and 8pm, and are also soon to be shown at www.audley-chalfont.co.uk.

We'd like to hear from you.
