Youth club to build new sports hall
A YOUTH club is celebrating after being given permission to build a new sports club in the village.
Chalfont St Giles Youth Club, which is run by volunteer Suizan Jefferson, applied to Chiltern District Council to build the new sports hall and have now been given the go ahead.
The new facility will allow youngsters to play sports such as five-a-side football, tennis and badminton, and will also be available to be rented out by members of the public.
The club managed to raise the £650 needed for the planning application by holding a number of fund raising events over the past year and were given the good news that their idea had been approved on Monday this week.
Mrs Jefferson said: "It is great news for us all. We have worked hard to get the plans together and to have them approved is a really good result.
"The new sports hall will give children the chance to have access to sporting facilities more easily and it will also be good for Chalfont St Giles because anyone will be able to book it out and use it.
"People often say that there is not enough for children to do in this area, but now there will be."
The club was also given a donation towards the plans by Tesco in Gerrards Cross, who also put them in touch with Bisce and Stanton Architects in London, who designed the plans free of charge.
Mrs Jefferson added: "Without that support I think we would still be raising funds for our plans, so it has been a massive help."
It is hoped that building work on the club will begin towards the end of this year, with the new hall opening up in 2013.
The youth club will now embark on more fund raising initiatives to put towards the cost of building the hall.
